Mexican wireless auctions deadline set

15 Jan. 10

Mexico’s telecoms regulator, the Comision Federal de Telecomunicaciones (Cofetel), plans to complete two auctions of wireless spectrum prior to the end of June, Dow Jones Newswires reports, according to TeleGeography CommsUpdate.

Having released the bidding rules for the upcoming sale process Cofetel announced it would declare the winners of the auction within 30 days of the final date for submitting bids, which is May 25. Companies interested in bidding for frequencies must be approved by the Federal Competition Commission.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, the regulator will make available nine blocks of spectrum in the 1850MHz-1990MHz band in eight of the country’s nine mobile operating regions, while a further seven blocks between 1710MHz and 2179MHz will be offered in all nine regions in a separate auction.
