BT to launch fixed telephony in Brazil

U.K.-based telecoms operator BT Group will launch a commercial fixed telephony service in Brazil next month, according to BT Brasil general director Sergio Paulo Gallindo as quoted by BNamericas, according to TeleGeography CommsUpdate.

The service has been tested and is ready for launch. It will be provided through BT Global Services, focusing first on the corporate segment.

BT Brasil will use NGN infrastructure provided by domestic equipment manufacturer Tropico to provide the new service. The telco holds a license to operate nationwide, but fixed telephony will be initially available in Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Curitiba.
