EASSy landing in Mtunzini

South African mobile group MTN confirmed that the East African Submarine System (EASSy) landed at Mtunzini on the north coast of Kwa-Zulu Natal in South Africa, TeleGeography CommsUpdate reported.

MTN Group's Trevor Martins, who is also the EASSy management committee chairman, said the completion of EASSy will boost broadband capacity and facilitate ongoing efforts to provide its customers with more affordable access to broadband.

The network is scheduled for a commercial launch in the second quarter of 2010.
