PLDT’s fiber expansion hits another target

11 March 10

Filipino incumbent Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) says it completed another phase of its fiber-optic network rollout program, this time activating a 320Gbps link across six network loops nationwide.

The new line will cater for rising demand for bandwidth-hungry services, PLDT said in a stock exchange filing.

The overall cost of the fiber-optic rollout program is PHP2.6 billion. To date, the telco lit the third optical fibre link to Baguio City, while the 1,220km leg between Lucena and Cebu, which passes through the islands of Bicol, Masbate, Panay and Negros, is expected to be completed by mid-2010.
