SA’s Telkom, AT&T resume partnership talks

27 Aug. 2010

South African telco Telkom announced it is looking to restart talks with U.S.-based AT&T about an African partnership, TeleGeography CommsUpdate reported.

In April 2009 Telkom signed a Memorandum of Understanding with AT&T that would allow the U.S. firm's African clients to use Telkom's Internet network when expanding or conducting business on the continent. In time, Telkom's network was to be linked to AT&T's global network. It is believed that progress in the talks stalled because of issues related to pricing and after-sales support.

In the meantime, acting Telkom CEO Jeffrey Hedberg confirmed that Telkom’s ZAR6 billion plan to enter South Africa's mobile phone market by the end of 2010 remains on course.
